Why is Travertine different colors?

Question: Why is Travertine different colors?

Answer: As is common with sedimentary stones, the range of Travertine varies from very light Ivory and Walnut to more colorful variations such as Leonardo and Autumn Blend. These are all due to the range of iron oxide particles present in the stone. Iron deposits from nearby rocks can also add color variations to Travertine. Other bands and waves of color in the Travertine are caused by various types of minerals interacting with fluids that come into contact with the Travertine, either through changes in conduits, or wet to dry climatic cycles.
